Do you remember this notice which appeared in the January 1972 issue of the Inland Waterways News ?

Assembly of Vessels Of The Ballinamore and Ballyconnell Canal Restoration Association (Commonly Called Old Weavings CanalManack)

Whereas the master of no vessel has proceded past the bridge at Leitrim since eighteen hundred and sixty six,it is proposed to remove stones and other obstructions, thus permitting the prudent mariner to navigate six cables eastward of the said bridge and to moor in the sixteenth lock of the navigation.

It is proposed to convene an assembly of the canal boats at Jamestown, and to proceed in procession to Leitrim for the prosecution of the works.Vessels laden with instruments of music and other amusements will be granted twice the allowance of normal for ullage.

The objects:Firstly to acquaint the Nobility,Gentry and Principal traders of this state of our interest in this navigation,by means of animated pictures on the electric television, and by report in the publick press:Secondly to assist the people of Leitrim by advising the Corinthian boatmen to visit that place:Thirdly to ensure conviviality among the owners, masters and peoples of canal craft.

John Weaving Owner and Master 1B,30M and 125B

The assembly took place as planned in May 1972 and the 125B was drawn in triumph up to the first lock
